Public advised to refrain from non-essential burning
The Mountain Home Fire Department (MHFD) along with the Mountain Home Rural Fire Protection District (MHRFPD) are asking the public to refrain from all nonessential open burning activities at this time.
On March 26, 2020, the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, Idaho Department of Lands and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare jointly released an advisory limiting open burning. MHFD is following suit with the request of these agencies.
COVID-19 affects the respiratory system and gastrointestinal system. It can cause asthma attacks and can lead to pneumonia and acute respiratory distress. People with asthma are advised to avoid asthma triggers such as smoke from burning wood or other plants. To avoid additional health impacts, the public should refrain from burning any yard waste or debris until conditions improve. We must all do our part in this difficult and unusual time to help those that are at the greatest risk of
contracting this disease, this includes limiting the impacts we may have on them.
Further questions may be directed to Fire Chief Mark D. Moore or Fire Marshal Brian W. Reed at (208) 587-2117.
